Tatreez Circle Gathering

April 24, 2026
Tatreez is more than a craft: it's a living archive of identity, place, and perseverance
Meet the Participants

Sabri Sundos is a Palestinian American painter & textile artist. Rooted in his personal experience being raised in the diaspora, Sundos explores themes of identity, labor and time. Through the merging of traditional craft and cultural iconography his work emphasizes the importance of agency & human touch, highlighting the inherent tactile nature of art-making as a means of reclaiming and preserving heritage. Sundos creates work that continues to foster dialogue around tradition, memory, and an undying hope for the future.

PlayCo & NYTW present a relaxed, communal Tatreez Circle from artist Sabri Sundos to deepen one’s practice of Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery, 7 to 9PM on April 24th, at Healing Bean Cafe in Bay Ridge. In this open-studio format, participants are invited to work at their own pace, learn from one another, and connect over shared creative practice. Sundos will be on hand to help refine technique, troubleshoot tricky patterns, and share knowledge. Rooted in generations of Palestinian storytelling and resistance, tatreez is more than a craft: it's a living archive of identity, place, and perseverance. Materials provided include Aida cloth, tapestry needles, thread and a selection of traditional motifs with translations.
