Palestine Comedy Night
Meet the Participants

Suzie Afridi was born and raised in teeny tiny Jericho, Palestine under the Israeli Occupation. She recently gave it a google review. She gave it zero out of five stars. She attended San Jose State University then pretended to be a tax professional until her husband decided on a whim to move to Dubai. She lived in Dubai for three years doing random jobs, none of which made her Pakistani in-laws proud. In 2007, she delivered a boy in a government hospital in Dubai, she misses their food to this day. In 2008, the little family of three moved to NYC. In 2013, she started doing stand up because no one read her blog. In 2017 she toured a story with The Moth and it aired on Valentine’s day this year. In 2019, she had another boy and she is raising two only children. When she is not doing stand up, she pretends to exercise and is producing a storytelling show titled Memory Keepers. Her long term goal is to entertain from bed. She is available for any kind of event, seriously, anything. @SuzieSaysSo

Nina Kharoufeh is an Arab-American Muslim stand-up comedian, author, and amateur boxer who quite literally wears her religion on her sleeve — well, her head. She’s worn a hijab since the age of 13 and never let it get in the way of being unapologetically herself, no matter the odds.
A graduate of Montclair State University’s College of the Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in Media, Ninadiscovered her passion for comedy and has since performed across the U.S. and internationally. Her stand-up draws heavily from her lived experience, exploring identity, faith, and the everyday absurdities of trying to live a “normal” life when the world has other plans.
Her debut children’s book, I’m a Princess Too, centers on a young Muslim girl navigating that same balance and is available wherever books are sold. Nina has been featured on The Food Network, TRT, and Al Jazeera, and previously hosted her own show on TLC. She has opened for comedians including D.L. Hughley, Godfrey, Bassem Youssef, and more.

In addition, Dean co-directed/co-produced the comedy documentary, The Muslims are Coming! designed to combat anti-Muslim bigotry and co-created “Stand up for Peace” to bring Muslims, Jews, Christians and all people together to laugh.

She’s been featured on AXSTV’s Gotham Comedy Live, at SF Sketchfest, at The Boston Comedy Festival and many more. Atheer also served as a staff writer for sketch shows like The Breakdown and Passport Control on Brooklyn’s Emmy award-winning network BRIC TV. She is also the co-creator and co-host of the critically-acclaimed sketch comedy show, Muslim Girls DTF: Discuss Their Faith, on FUSE TV, which has won numerous awards including Series Fest Best: Independent Comedy Writing, Yes And…Laughter Lab competition, and The Pop Culture Collaborative’s Becoming America Fund.
